About Face Cosmetics (aka The She Space) clearance on old backstock! (and swatches)

Hi Nesters!

Heather of Heatheresque and Eye Couture Cosmetics, and also the owner of the now defunct online cosmetics company About Face Cosmetics (aka The She Space), has posted some of her About Face backstock on her Eye Couture web site. Here's what Miss Heather says about it:

"Well, if you didn't think I was crazy before, then this email will surely put you over the edge....but a girl's got to do, what a girl's got to do in order to find homes for eye colors! LOL!! So, when you have a second.....either visit our message board or click on this link http://www.eyecouturecosmetics.com/aboutfaceclearance.html to learn about how you can get former About Face eye colors for just $1.50. Yes....I keep trying to get them into new homes, but the insanity never seems to end, so for those who didn't love the grab-bag idea, this is a last ditched effort....just for you! I hope that this finally gives you the opportunity to get what you might have missed out on.....and gives me a little peace of mind in knowing that ALL of the colors are finally gone! LOL!!!"

They are being sold in baggies that contain the same amount of product you would find in a 5 gram jar. And for only $1.50! Up on the site, is a photo chart of the colors she is offering right now (all her available neutrals) but there are no hand swatches or color descriptions. I went through my old stash of samples and found a few colors that I really liked but never bought full sizes of. I couldn't pass up this great offer so I placed an order for full sizes of these five colors today.

One of the lovely ladies on the Heatheresque forum posted a document containing color descriptions for many of the former About Face/TSS eye shadows to help everyone in their selection process. Although she didn't have descriptions for all of the colors I have. Fortunately, I had written them on my sample baggies.

Here are my hand swatches and descriptions:

Aromaleigh Turquoise FOTD

This year, I've been paying a little bit more attention to the Pantone color forecast. Today, I decided to break a few rules (who made these rules anyway?) and match my eyeshadow to my blouse. I pulled out my binder of eyeshadow samples and Aromaleigh's Celeste pure eyes lustre jumped out at me (turquoise is one of the colors in Pantone's spring forecast-see below).

I even got a few compliments today (one was from a girl in Cameron's kindergarten class, but that still counts in my book).

Here's what I used to complete this look:
  • Celeste (Aromaleigh) - shimmering pearl jade green...on my lid
  • Severina (Aromaleigh) - gorgeous verdant green with an almost metallic pearl glimmer...on outer corner
  • Perceived Reality (The She Space) - graham cracker taupe...in the crease
  • Maiden (Aromaleigh) - a very muted mauve/lilac with flecks of golden glimmer...to highlight and blend
  • Lt. Grey eyeliner pencil (?) - waterline (I never do this but I just started using Rx eye drops so it didn't bother me today)
  • 2w/2yl glissade mineral foundation (Aromaleigh)
  • Clear Ultra Resolution Finishing Powder (Aromaleigh)
  • Dolly (Aromaleigh) rouge - clear brilliant pink
  • Shortcake (discont'd Aromaleigh) - lips

From The She Space:
Raise your hand if Autumn is your favorite time of year! ME ME ME!! Granted, it has been a pretty pathetic Summer here in the Chi-town area and I could have used a few more warm days...but I know they might still be out there. However...I must confess that Fall, and all of her majestic, rich tones is my favorite time of year! Admittedly when the clock strikes midnight and August officially begins, something happens to my brain and I go into color mode. It's true!!! My latest haul from The She Space...

I was very pleased with the previous round of samples (as well as several full sizes) I received from The She Space. The full sizes I chose (which I had already sampled), were mostly from the "Sprinkle of Twinkles and Pearl" collection (STP). I also got a couple from the "Go Glam or Go Home" collection (GGGH), and one full size from the "Velvets" collection. The texture and color payoff of the eye shadows in the STP and GGGH collections is very good and the colors really last (I always use Aromaleigh’s shadow primer first). The one Velvet I purchased a full size of was Stopping Traffic and I absolutely love it. It's the perfect not too frosty or shimmery brow bone highlighter. I loved the texture of it so much that I ordered 30 more samples from the Velvets collection and they arrived today. Big disappointment!

If you’re a fan of matte shadows but find that most mattes have too much drag upon application, you might like this collection since the shadows do apply very smoothly even over primer. But if you’re a lover of rich saturated color with some oomph, this collection is not for you. I will continue to cherish my beloved Stopping Traffic but the rest of the Velvet collection is a big NO for me.

And for those of you who like velvety matte eye shadows, I did swatch some of the colors (the ones I liked the best) on my arm for you. But if you want a true velvety plush textured eye shadow in the light to mid-tone range, I highly recommend Aromaleigh's "Eye Plush" collection. I own and love every single eye shadow in that collection. However, my personal favorite is Sunny Disposition.

The She Space "Cocoa Rose" FOTD

I'm really enjoying the eye shadows from The She Space. Of the colors I've tried, the quality is very nice and they really last. The textures are great as well. I'm particularly fond of their "The Velvets" collection. Here is the description from their web site:

"Some days you just do not any sparkle or twinkle, so our entire collection of Velvet Pigments is just what the Doctor ordered. All of the pigments listed below have a texture that is more like a velvet finish (hence the name) and have no sparkle. Please keep in mind that these are not MATTE shades, they just tend to look more like a smoothe velour or velvet fabric when you apply them. However....they do beg to be layered next to any of our more twinkly colors, so knock yourself out and don't hesitate to mix and match to your hearts' content!!!"

Here's the eye shadow (all by The She Space) I used for this look:

  • stopping traffic (The Velvets): Sheerest butter yellow
  • lesli in leather (April Ltd Ed): Crystal rose w/ blue & violet glow
  • love that lynne (April Ltd Ed): Sheer cocoa taupe w/ halo of pink
  • kiss of reality (May Ltd Ed): Soft buttery gold

And here's where I used them:

  • stopping traffic - inner 1/3 of lid
  • lesli in leather - outer 2/3 of lid
  • love that lynne - crease/outer v
  • kiss of reality - brow bone highlight

Other makeup in this look:

  • Aromaleigh voile mineral foundation (I used a mix of 2y/2yl/2w and 3y) - all over
  • Aromaleigh gothic lolita rouge in Rococo - cheeks
  • Aromaleigh gothic lolita lip color creme in Shortcake - lips
  • Aromaleigh gel liner in Black Out - upper lash line
  • Max Factor 2000 calorie waterproof mascara - upper lashes

The She Space Haul...

Today, I received 8 full size eyeshadows (3 gram jars, no sifters) and 13 eyeshadow samples from The She Space (aka About Face Cosmetics). They have quite a nice selection of colors as well as a variety of textures to their eyeshadows. And of the ones I've tried so far, the color payoff is good.

However, I do have two complaints. [Excuse me while I shout...] WOULD IT KILL THEM TO PUT AN INVOICE OF WHAT I ORDERED IN MY PACKAGE? And... PUT YOUR COMPANY NAME ON YOUR SAMPLES!!!

Oh and a couple more things... (no shouting) It would be helpful if they had a product search engine on their web site. It's very difficult to find a specific color if you don't know which collection it came from. It would also be nice if they posted updates about their limited edition collections (or updates of any kind for that matter) on their blog. This company could take lessons from Aromaleigh.

And a compliment...I do love the idea behind Hope Quest 2009. Read more about it here.

Okay, here are my goodies!

Color descriptions of the full size shadows (I sampled all of these except kiss of reality prior to purchasing full sizes):

  • broken rules: Soft twinkling honey with layers of gold and pink
  • glossed over: Shimmering plum with layers of baby blue and lavender
  • goddess called pam (discont April LE): Warm iridescent cocoa fused w/ rose
  • kiss of reality (May LE): soft buttery gold (I'm going to use this as a brow highlight/crease blender)
  • lesli in leather (discont April LE): Crystal rose w/ blue & violet glow
  • love that lynne (discont April LE): Sheer cocoa taupe w/ halo of pink
  • slumber party: Golden cocoa with layers of copper and pink
  • stopping traffic: Sheerest butter yellow (another brow highlight/crease blender - similar to kiss of reality but not as shimmery or sparkly)

*I was lucky enough to write the color descriptions on my sample bags. Otherwise, I would not have descriptions of the full size discontinued limited edition eyeshadows.

And here are the color descriptions (if available) of the samples:

  • passion parade: Twinkling cocoa raisin
  • ruler of the land: Ashy denim blue shimmer
  • storybook love: Shimmering mauve rose
  • social climber: Soft plum shimmer
  • seeds of truth: Shimmering rose bronze
  • celia sings show tunes: (discont April LE - description not available)
  • cade in my parade: (discont April LE- description not available)
  • perceived reality: Graham cracker taupe
  • ecstasy unleashed: Nude corn yellow
  • simmer down now: Vivid rose bronze with a bit of sparkle
  • ruled by memories: Shimmering cocoa-berry plum
  • chained up heart (capricorn): Softest rose wine shimmer
  • december maybe (capricorn): Creamy bisque with a hint of coral
I hope you enjoyed checking out my haul. Please feel free to share your experiences with The She Space (aka About Face Cosmetics).

Makeup Geek Weekly Challenge - Ashwarya Rai Inspired Look

Makeup Geek is a wonderful makeup blog/website. I'm sure you've already heard of it, but I just found it about a week ago. I've watched some great tutorials, read some helpful tips, and discovered that they have a weekly makeup challenge on their forum. I decided to join in for the first time this week.

From the Makeup Geek site...
"I found this beautiful picture of Ash’s look, and think it would be beautiful on just about everyone! You just need silver and a rose-ish colored eyeshadow with some black liner and you’re good to go for one hot, sexy look! I’d love to see you all try this one, so bring it on MUGS! Post your pictures here in our Weekly Challenge: Ashwarya Rai"

Okay, so we can all agree that I don't look anything like Ashwarya. But that's not really the point is it? The idea is to draw inspiration from this look, which I did. I was intrigued by the use of a metallic silvery tone mixed with a burnished rose. In my opinion, this color combination is everyday wearable with just a bit more oomph!

*The interpretation would have been more literal had I used a black liner on the waterline but I have allergy eyes so I decided to forego liner underneath.

The two main colors I used in this look

Here's what I used:
  • Awe (Aromaleigh elemental lustre) – lid
  • Glossed Over (The She Space) – crease/v
  • Sunny Disposition (Aromaleigh eye plush) – under brow and to blend out crease
  • Ice (Aromaleigh pure matte) – inner corner
  • Drama Queen Topaz (Aromaleigh mineral liner) – mixed with sealant and applied to top lash line
  • Glorious (Aromaleigh pure rouge) - cheeks
  • Pinkish Bronze gloss (Wet n Wild I think) - lips

Thanks for checking out my look!

Anyone know where these came from?

I received these samples a couple of weeks ago and let them sit on my desk and get piled over with stacks of papers. I just dug them out today and I don't remember what company they're from. Do you?

You'd think if a company wants you to reorder products from them, they'd put their name on the label. With the sad little sticker dots on them, these samples look like they came from someone's yard sale.

Edit to add: I just found a note on my desk from The She Space. That must be who they're from. Mystery solved.

Have any of you tried these colors yet? If so, what are your thoughts?

Color Names:

sparkle pearl
cabana boy
goddess called pam
lesli in leather
peggy pushed polly
queenie of the cats
love that lynne
shot the messenger
